So.... I've Had A Small Royal Pleco For About 4 Months Now. Thought I Was Doing Good Up Until I Did A Little More Research And Now I'm Pretty Disappointed In Myself. I've Fed My Pleco A Diet Of Naturally Occurring Algae, Blood Words Algae Wafers (Not Sure If He's Ingesting Them Or My Cichlid Is) And Cucumbers.Through Research It's Become Painfully Apparent That I Need Some Bogwood. My Only Real Question Is What Kind Of Wood Do I Feed My Beautiful Specimen?I've sSeen The Words Bogwood And Driftwood Thrown Around But I've Also Read They Require Multiple Woods To Premote A Healthy Diet. What Woods Do They Like? So Far I've Seen Milaysian And Oak. I've Looked Online To Buy Some But I'm Finding Mostly HorWood And The Websites I've VisitedJust Say "Driftwood" Bogwood""Hornwood" So Is Just Any Wood Ok? Or Should I Find Specific Types Of Wood Like Pine, Oak, Red Oak, Wall Nut Etc... (Not Saying They Should Eat Those Kinds Of Wood But There's Got To Be Some Specific Woods They Thrive On.) I've Also Read That They Really Just Want The Bacteria Out Of The Wood. So Idk What To think Any More.... Someone Guide Me Because I Don't Like Harming Animals Especially If I'm There Lifeline And I Wan My Pleco To Thrive Like All My Other Fish. On A Side Note, I Noticed A Loud Scraping Sound Last NightAnd Turns Out My Pleco Is Eating My Plastic Filter Right where The Water Discharge. Is He Actually Eating The Plastic Or Just Scraping It? Any And All Advice Is Appreciated Thank You!!!!/QUOTE]

Good question, mine loves cucumbers. He does munch on wood a lot I'm just not sure what kind I have, there's about three huge pieces of bogwood in there with him. The only reason I know he eats it is because of all the shavings I find in the filters and during w/C's.

Wood and vegetables and your royal will do great. Don't feed the tank too much brine shrimp or blood worms. Your royal will eat them and not know they aren't good for himself.

I have a range of different woods in mine tank, a mix of harder and softer ones, it seems to prefer the softer wood.

Also feeding a range of vege's will be good, what ever they eat, and I have heard great things, and am trailing myself feeding Repashy's Morning wood.

I've often read here that Manzanita is really good wood for Royal's...

Driftwood, Tetra Veggie Algae Wafers and real veggies for my Royal keep him happy.
