green peppers as pleco food

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
 just remove it after a day so it doesn't get messy and change water parameters

My plecos (snow king, L200, Royal, L129) love both green, yellow and red bell peppers. Been feeding it for three years now with no ill effects.

I've fed yellow squash (zucchini is basically squash too) and my ABN ate it.

Peppers are only spicy because we and other mammals have capsaicin receptors as well as taste buds. Peppers evolved the spicyness (capsaicin) to prevent grazing animals such as cows from eating them. Birds do not have these receptors which is why you will find hot chilis in parrot food. As for fish, since they have been around longer than pepper plants have I would assume it would be fine to give your pleco green and other bell peppers.

Aww c'mon. What do you do when you eat something spicy? Drink water. And what is a fish doing 24hrs a day? lol
But seriously I wouldn't think Bell peppers would cause any harm. Habaneros and the like I dunno, but I'd hate to "waste" those on my fish anyway lol.

that is not entirely true. your theory basically means you could pepper spray a fish and they wouldn't feel any effect
