So i want to order a small group of green phantom from snookn21. have heard a lot of good things on this site. I know there are two fish that go under L200 the Baryancistrus demantoides and Hemiancistrus subviridis . I am looking for the baryancistrus demantoides. I think the ones he has for sale are b. demantoides. the dorsal an adipose looked connected to me. Anyone confirm the id for me? Thanks

thanks for the reply. I have seen those links. think it is not B. demantoides. Dorsal and adipose isn't connected. Also posted it on planetcatfish as well and the one response I got was against it too. Will keep on looking.

It is impossible to tell from the photo. Assuming that the PVC in the background is 1.5", then those are only 3-4"TL. Often, young B. demantoides will not have a full dorsal until 5-6" TL. This is more evident in females in my experience.

There should still be a small fold connecting the dorsal fin to the adipose fin which is not present.

As stated above, that dorsal fin may not attain full growth until these fish are much older than those pictured. I have raised a great deal of both of these species, and have had some that appeared to be H. subviridis turn out to be B. demantoides when more size was attained.

think I found it. Is this guy identified correctly?

So at smaller sizes they are pretty much identical?
