Judging by the shape of that split, and if it came to you that way, I'm thinking maybe a minor cosmetic defect rather than an injury to the dorsal. Happens sometimes, in various species you can get a few like that as they grow out from fry-- what a breeder does from there depends on the breeder, the species, the overall look of the fish, etc.
Agree on that one. Could be a birth defect or a wound that happened while he was growing and didn't heal properly. I have an Argentea with this issue, I got her this way and it doesn't seem to cause any problem.

Thank you just want to make sure he's good my scarlet has a is a little the same not as bad any ideas how to try and fix if possible
When it's genetic or developmental, then it is what it is, you can't 'heal' it. But when it's a split due to chasing, fighting, etc., then I find a mild dose of Melafix can help, by mild I mean 1/4 dose or so, more isn't really better, unless you're trying to treat fungus, etc. Or simply time and good water conditions can also heal a lot of splits and scuffs from chasing, etc. Melafix just speeds it up some ime.

Nice fish, though. I've had L200s and like them.
