Hi All,
I just noticed my Green Severum shaking and biting and never noticed it doing this before. Is this normal? I have had him about 8 years and have seen him bite the rock before. He does it all the time like hes keeping it clean. He shakes and then bites the same rock Any thoughts? I have a video but cant post it. Thanks!

Is that old fin damage or new fin rot? That could indicate possible water problem that may have snuck in. If you haven’t conditioned your water it could possibly be chlorine burn?

The fins have been like that for a good while. I use prime every time I do a water change and I just did one a few days ago. He is pretty shy even though hes by himself. Only thing different lately is the water change, new lights and a UV sterilizer. All in past week. Hes eating normal but just noticed the head shakes

what is your light schedule? I doubt it but maybe UV sterilization bothers him?

When I put the lights on he hid alot for two days now he seems ok but theyre on about 6 hours a day. He went a month without nearly any except a work light I had as I was trying to decide what to buy since I couldnt get the original bulbs for my old fixture anymore. Alos added a new air stone and removed the old one.

Shaking of the head is cause of lack of muscle control. Something like a parasite could be messing with it or water conditions could not be ideal for it. Or like you said keeping it for 8 years he could be getting old a losing so control of his body.

He hasn't had a tank mate in 4 years. After the male or female (i'm not sure what sex it is) died I just kept it by itself and decided not to add more as he charges the glass when you get near, so I thought maybe he was just aggressive and didnt want to deal with fighting although he spawned a few times a few years ago before the other one passed. So im not sure how it would have gotten a parasite unless it came through the water which I dont know if that could happen
