Hello. I decided to trade my Angelfish in for a Green Severum. He is in a 55 gallon tank. He has been hiding all day. Is that normal for them to do?

All fish are skittish when fist acquired. Give him a couple days to settle in. Is there hides, plants so he can have a place of safety? And can come out when he wants to.

Nice looking tank. So yes for a few days it might be a bit shy. Imagine what he just went thru to get to your nice tank. Dim the light's for a couple days. Let him warm up to the new tank, new you, new activity outside of the tank.

Thanks so much Sean. I appreciate your help. Do you have any Severums?

No I don't, I have an Oscar in a 125 and some Honduran Red Points in a 55. And setting up another 125 for Jack Dempsey's.

Cichlids are not like your lower more instinctual fish like Tetras and such. They are predators and in so have a higher level of thinking. They do have emotions and over time spent with your fish you will get to see them, and at times drastically.

Another thing you can try later on is dither fish. In the wild cichlids normally live near Tetras, live bareres and use them as an early warning alarm system. If they are being normal all is good. If they are running like mad a big predator is about and the cichlid might have to fight or run him self.

If you go this route think of a tall body tetra, bard about 6 to 8 of them. Just make sure it will stay bigger than your fishes mouth. If it fits it's food to them.

For my Oscar I have silver dollar's in there, in my 55 there are tetras and Platties.

Thanks again Sean for all your help. I appreciate it. I will go to the pet store and check out the Tetras. He was out a little bit today and ate some food. I was happy about that.
