Green Severum

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would stick with standard. The long fin tend to be a bit slower so in turn could be easier for you Sevrun to catch/kill.

Thank you. I will look at those. I put some Kens Premium Cichlid flake in today and he spit it out. What are some foods they really like? Should they be floating or sinking?

IM not familiar with Tetras. Could you please name a few that would work in the tank. Thank you.

I have never had Sevrums myself, but I assume they are much like other cichlids that they are omnivores and eat a bit of everything in the wild.
When getting new fish they may not eat for a couple days, stress and all. With that said you can try flakes or a pellet that will fit in your fishes mouth.
Now brands that is an ongoing topic of heated discussion. I balance between quality of ingredients vs availability vs will my fish eat it. I started Toni on Hikari then tried New Life Spectrum, she wouldn't eat it so went back to Hikari. Most of your really good foods have to be mail ordered so that's a thing to add in as well.
I prefer floating food myself, that way if they don't eat it it's easy to get out with a net.
Some Tetras that might work that I like are Serpae, Black skirts, Black Phantom, Congo. If you want you can look thru The Wet Spots list and find one you like. Just make sure get taller than elongated.

This thread went from a new fish in a tank, to adding more fish. If you want to add more fish there are a lot that will be fine with a Sev in a 55. If the only reason you want more fish is to what amounts to pestering (dithers) the Sev to come out so you can see it, I would suggest you let the Sev settle in and it will come out on its one. I have had more than a few Sevs and they are fairly active fish that are not prone to hiding.

If a full tank of fish is what you really want, there are other options than just tetra.

Hi Sean. I don't buy any food at the store. I order everything on line. Better prices too. I keep forgetting I just got him. LOL. Thanks so much for the info on Tetras. I LOVE Wet Spot Tropical!!! They have such cool fish!!! Thanks again for all your help. I will let you know what I get.

Hi. You think once he gets use to the tank he will be active?

I am lucky that I live just a half hour away from The Wet Spot so it's my LFS.

Indeed it's where I get all my fish. Every fish I have bought from them has been just great. No issues what so ever. Not counting Toni's dislike of others cichlids and the 8 or so I have had to rehome due to her.
