Green Spot Puffer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have two GSP's. One is double the size of the other one. The larger one is scared of everything. When anyone walks by the tank she runs. The little one is scared of nothing. And when the bigger one gets scared her stomach turns black.

you have to check and stabilize your water parameters as little white bubbles on the body can indicate nitrrate and high phosphate levels in the water, which might be the culprit considering its a new tank. It is very common to see small puffers with darkened coloration when water parameters arent optimal. Also keeping 2 gsps in a tank together probably isnt the best idea, even considering the large tank size. If youre going with more than one, its best to have a fairly large group so the aggression becomes more diffuse in the tank. Good luck with the little guy.

Please read: Green Spotted Puffers

My guess would also be that your puffer is suffering from an uncycled tank. Stability does nothing to cycle your tank. I'd get Bio-Spira (be sure it has been refrigerated) & add that to your filter, ASAP. Do not let the store sell you anything else--it all contains dead bacteria which will only add to your problems.

It is also possible your puffer has internal parasites.

Unless those ghost shrimp are gut-loaded with food, your puffer has been eating basically nothing but mostly crunchy water.

we want other fish for the Brackish tank. but the brackish fish are not very colorful at least what i have seen or am i wrong? we would like some monos and maybe a snowflake eel to go with the green spots. would that work or what will work? mind that is is only a 50 gallon.

different brackish fish thrive under different water conditions, so it all depends on what individual fish. monos would be nice, check out some monodactylus argentus for a bit more color as opposed to the sebaes. the snowflakes they sell as freshwater do much better in extremely brackish water and eventually a marine conversion, same thing with fish like scats. You could do a jade goby, an archerfish, maybe some decent sized red or green chromides, even some dragon gobies with ample hiding spaces. None however are that colorful, but brackish fish make up in uniquity for what they lack in looks. There are also much more unique brackish fish out there but they would require a specialized tank for the most part. Good luck with your hunt.

I keep my s.g.at about1.008 to1.o10 and keep 2 puffs an archer a knight goby and 2 morey eels all have been together for a long time and are doing well.My puffs change color all the time the larger one turns dark early in the morning until he eats then lightens up.Both of my puffs fear nothing.

Since the recommended tank size for an adult GSP is 30g ea, I definately wouldn't suggest tankmates, unless you plan on upgrading.
