Just set up my 125 gallon tank ready to stock I know I'm getting a tire track eel and green phantom pleco and about 30 african cichlids any thoughts on adding a spotted puffer I've always like them and have seem them together on YouTube and have read up on the puffer seems to like same water conditions just concerned with aggression

Well, first off, a GSP as mentioned above is high-end Brackish almost marine species puffer, so it wouldn't survive long with those fish....

And to be honest, most puffers, even freshwater ones are not recommend for community tanks due to them either tearing apart tank mates, or getting stressed out by larger ones...

I don't know much about puffer just find them interesting I haven't seen anything saying brackish water but then again I just started looking into this

ehh ehh Fat Homer Fat Homer great answer guys.

As mentioned, the puffer is brackish, no go with those freshwater fish. Won't the African cichlids terrorize the eel and pleco...? I always thought Africans were mean little SOBs.

The problem i often find is a lot of stores stock Figure 8 & GSP puffers and sell them as F/W fish, when in reality niether works in freshwater long term...

There are actual freshwater species of puffer, but as i said before, none are really suitable for a community tank for different reasons...

Now that I have been reading up more on the puffers I see my LFS just trying to make a buck I had African cichlids with plecos and a fire eel before for several years and they were cool but I left them with ex girlfriend now starting over
