Green Sunfish Fishing and keeping

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Green sunfish are very agressive and will eat any food they can swollow.
I like to ceatch them on ultralight rods useing a nightcrawler on a hook only.
They are fun on fly tackel too.
I feed my Green Sunfish nightcrawlers, minnows, and what ever bugs I can ceatch.
They will eat brin shrimp, and blood worms too when small.

what are you feeding the one you currently have?
how big are the 7 greens?

i feed them feeder fish, worms, mealworms(without heads), bugs, goldfish pellets, flakes, and shrimp pellets, along with other stuff
the smallest green is 1.5" and the largest is around 5"

hey guys, will the big adult sunfish come to the top to eat?(floating foods)

cmj; why take off the head? do they bite?

yes they will eat from the top, yes they can chew through the stomach and out through the body of the fish

ewwww..thanks.
any other worms that are dangerous?

wax, night, blood, trout/panfish wormsetc.

No, just any kind of mealworm (mini, giant, super), as far as feeders. Then theres round worms, tape worms, etc.

I have 3 sunfish that I caught with my castnet (yeah I cheated). I feed them tropical flakes, bloodworms, any bugs around the house, and occasionally my fingers.

My greenies will eat just about anything. They do seem to prefer nightcrawlers.

I caught mine on a small spinner, as I did my guadalupe bass. The bass only eat live fish. the green eats anything, so I feed him flakes so he dont eat so many feeders

do they eat pretty messy?
i noticed that when my pumpkinseed eats worms, all the stuff in the worm comes out of the gill.
