green sunfish in large tank?

I agree with you on the look. Green sunfish look awesome. They just look intimidating.

Juvy Greens are beautifully colored, strong green streaks on their face and bright green speckles on their body. Unfortunately this becomes less and less pronounced as they age, and they end up looking like dull green mud.

They do have a nice bass like shape.

I really think the aggression has more to do with territory. I've kept a couple and it seemed that if they were able to claim a territory and defend it then they would be less aggressive, but if there isn't enough structure then I think you'll run into more problems. I don't think you'll be able to get rid of all aggression entirely, that's a risk you'll run with greens, but I think you can lower the aggression level by giving the tank a lot of structure.

I agree, in my experience Greens are not any more aggressive than other Lepomis. I think there are a wide variety of factors that go into aggression, tank size, tank structure, water quality, water chemistry, water temperature, tank mates, size of the fish, age of the fish, dither fish, also sex of the fish is a big one.

My most recent experience with greens, and I've had many, was a batch of 4 in the 2 to 3 inch range that I brought home 2 and a half years ago. After a year, the largest green became the alpha of the tank, but didn't really do much chasing or fighting, I suspect she is female. The pumpkinseed, redbreast, and buegil tank mates were all considerably more aggressive and ended up killing the smaller greens. I had to separate the pumpkinseed and bluegil, but I can put anything in with the green, as long as it's not small enough to fit into it's mouth ;).
