Do you think green terrors are capable of co-existing with the more heavy duty cichlids like Trimacs, midas, motaguense, festae, fenerstratus without getting constantly picked on or killed?( Leave both dovii and umbie out)

We had a pretty interesting topic in the CA/SA forum about this. I want to see what you guys think.

BTW. Tell us why you choose your answer.

I said no. From my experiences Green Terror are quite aggressive from a small size and will often bully some of the more heavy duty Cichlids ie Triamc, Dovii & Midas etc. But when the heavy duty Cichlids start maturing it is lights out for the Green Terror. I once raised a 3" Green Terror and 3" Midas together in a 125 gallon. For about the first 4-5"" of growth the Green Terror showed more aggression and ruled the tank but once the Midas hit 8-9" he was to big and strong for the Green Terror to mess with.

It varies IMO some GTs ive had could hold there own with any other fish I had(Jags, red devils) an other GTs ive had were complete Wimps.

Absolutely 100 percent no. In my 18 years of fishkeeping I have not seen a fish that is more undeserving of its name than green terrors. Although some can get quite aggresive one tangle with the fish you mentioned and the terror would either be dead or cowaring in the top of the tank.

they can be aggressive yes but they wouldnt wanna mess with the likes of a full grown tri mac or devil. i have seen them co exist with the likes of texas cichlids, jack dempseys, black belts, and other various S. and C. American cichlids of a like size and temperment. RD's and tri macs and Jag's just get too big and belligerent. BUT..............big BUT here, every fish is an individual. there are probably a few people out there with fire breathing Green terrors, but the majority are not gonna handle what those other fish dish out

LOL I am shocked that the poll is this close. My guess is all the people who voted no have never kept a fenerstratus before. I had a really aggresive male gt. He was maybe 11" and had beaten down an equal sized pair of dempseys. I added a 8.5" fenerstratus to the tank and it killed the terror overnight.

Im not suprised, I've seen GT's in several tanks with agressive cichlids (jag doviis ect) Im not saying the GT could win a fight but they can certainly be housed together.......we all know that many fish have different temperments. And its really up to the individual fish. Maybe if the poll was worded a little differently the results would represent that. When i think "hang with" I think about them being in the same tank.....It may not be likely but it does happen. or hell, it could be likely, ive never owned a GT...im just going by what ive seen

I guess you may be right. I am going to post this on WW. It should be interesting.
