rallysman you have proven my original point to MARCE, thank you... They can and have been housed with trimacs, jags etc. and did just fine......

Well if they can in my 18 years of cichlid keeping I have not seen it. IMO he worded the poll wrongly. He should have put " Do you think green terrors can survive head to head encounters with the heavy duty cichlids" head to head encounters being fights that often occur in in cichlid tanks. Having owned all the fish in question I have to strongly disagree with those of you who voted yes. Not to be an ass or anything. But how many of you have owned fully grown trimacs and motaguense and have kept terrors with them that actually thrived and were not constantly stressed out? Cichlidscene kept a 12" specimen with some smaller centrals however once his female festae grew to 9" she beat the crap out of the much bigger gt to the point that he had to get rid of him.

I dont mean to nit pick but do you guys honestly think a 11" fully grown male gt even stands a chance againsit a 14" male trimac? To think the terror stands a chance is laughable IMO.

Of those who voted yes how many of you have owned the cichlids he mentioned in his poll?

A fight, no. But i was under the impression that this was about co-existance. not fights. It IS definately possible. like i stated earlier....every fish and every combination is different.

Your right it depends on how you understood the question.

I have never seen a full grown GT housed with any full grown Trimacs, Dovii or any other big bruisers in tanks under 200 gallons. My freind kept a 12" GT with a 14" Jaguar Cichlid and a 7" Dovii but the jag owned 75% of the tank and the GT looked stressed as hell.

This whole thing got twisted up, marce started all this in another post taliking about GT's not being able to be housed with TRIMACS,RD'S,JAGS etc. and his reasoning behind that statement was they lack the proper tools to defend themselves. That is just false i see these fish together all the time at many area LFS and there is no stress, but like another member said it depends on the individual fish. Some of you are acting like TRIMACS AND JAGS are in the same class as UMBEE AND DOVII and they are not. These fish will without a doubt destroy a GT and any other cichlid. But the fact of the matter is (GT,JAGS,TRI'S) are often kept togeteher with no issues but there are also cases where it doesn't work but the fact that they are kept together proves that the GT can handle itself with these other large cichlids. Anyways i'm sure there are those who disagree but i'm going off what i've seen and i'm obviously not the only one.

I had a GT and it was a killer looking fish, but it was only good looking when I took it out of the tank that had a Red Devil and a Texas. He was getting torn up, but once I put it in a less aggressive tank with a couple Oscars, he bacame a lot less stressed, tattered and just looked awesome. Definitly my favorite chichlid. Dont get me wrong, I may have gotten a wimp, but I for sure am not going to keep it in a tank with the mean guys.

This GT is in a tank with 3 large red devils ( 1 - 12" 2 - 7" ) 3 red terrors ( all at least 8" ) and a long list of other cichlids that are bigger then him and he seems to do fine.

Is he meaner? I don't know but he will stand up for himself.

I voted No because the GT's I've had in the past have been unable to stand up against Midas, Festae, Synspillum, Managuense. It was a 240 gallon tank, and he is always hiding in the corner.
