Actually overcrowding can help with aggression. It divides it. That's not the case here anyway. As has already been said, the oscar was just larger than the gt, who was the dominant fish, and he was threatened.
 
Overcrowding can help with aggression in my experience. It won't always, but it is one method that can work. That is one of the factors as to why I have no aggression in my 210 with viejas, jag, gt, jd, jag, oscar, pikes, midas, and others. It won't always be the case, but it can help. In your case, it seems as though the problem is more related to introducing a new fish to an established tank.
 
I put the Green Terror back in the tank today, at first he hid behind the piece of light diffuser I'm using as a barrier. When the lights went off they starting fighting again but this time locking lips in a more evenly matched battle. I'm watching them very closely if things get out hand i'll move the GT once again. Here is the pic...
