Quick back story before my question. I've had my GTs since september. They are housed in a 75gal. I bought 8 of them to pair them off. Lost 2 due to aggrestion from another fish no long housed with them. The 6 lived well together for quite a awhile. About a month ago the largest male had developed a kok and grown much bigger than any of the others. He and the largest female laid eggs. I removed the other 4 terrors. Sadly none of the fry made it. Since then its like my tank has been going backwards, or at least pause. Female lost her color she is more tan now. The male has not grown at all and lost his kok. He had never really got his blue/green coloring and I've never understood that either. So did I hurt his development by removing other males? What can I do to fix this problem? My other tanks are thriving but these guys wont grow and color up!

You did not hurt his development by removing him. His dominant colors do not need to be pronounced when he is the only male in the tank. Same with the female. She has no one to display to other than this male. If you were to put them back with the other GT, you would likely see a sharp change in color, attitude and display.

Agreed ^^

How do I bring back coloration without bringing back more GTs? Im sure we would all agree this tank isnt big enough for more than the two I already have.

A good varied diet and the right lighting. Some dithers may work - as the pair may see them as competition. Other than that patience, they will get their colour back - just will take time. They will likely breed again soon also, which will encourage colour.

I only feed NSL. Should I feed them something different? I have a few barbs as dithers, they pay no attention to them what so ever. The male has been tail whipping and shaking at the female the last few days so Im hoping for fry soon.

In my experience (3 GT spawns) the flaring and shaking usually takes a week plus before egg laying. And in that week they colour up hugely. I feed mine the occasional frozen bloodworm, daphnia and such. Also feed them live foods such as earthworms, crickets, etc. Keeping it varied. But i use hikari gold as the main pellet. All my gt's looove algae wafers. Do you have sand or gravel? When i changed to sand i saw a huge change in colour.

A couple of things, when breeding fish have more color. When fish are in an aggressive stance (like with the other fish in the tank), they can show more color. However, keeping them in clean water and feeding them top quality foods will produce the best colors overall. Patience is key, colors often grow over time as well.
