Sorry for your loss and the late reply but agree with MrsE88 MrsE88 the GT's possibly were already affected with health issues prior. Furthermore the 2 larger Oscars may have stressed them out more. This is why quarantine is so important. Please seperate the remaining GT from the Oscars.

So if I've got this right, everything's been fine, then one day you come in and there's one dead GT and the other GTs are in bad shape, including torn fins? So essentially everything seems fine, then overnight you have this?

Very strong sign one or both oscars don't want the GTs around anymore. Could be they've paired up, are courting, or getting ready to spawn. You say you have two GT pairs? Could be it was the GTs that started it for similar reasons, the GTs got territorial or aggressive, but the Oscars laid into them. Different things could have precipitated it but, again, everything fine, then dead, twirling, and torn fish usually means aggression, not illness.

Don't let the white poo fool you, that can be due to injury and stress. And don't let not seeing the aggression while you're around fool you. It's not uncommon for that to happen at night or when you're not looking, despite things looking innocent when lights are on or you're not in the room.

Also, everything fine for a couple of months doesn't mean things can't change suddenly. I've had tanks work great for 2, 3 years or so, then suddenly no one gets along and it takes some time and some tinkering-- moving fish in and out to get a combination that works again-- to restore peace.

...correction to last sentence above, meant to say things looking innocent when you're in the room (aggression when you're not in the room).

Sorry to hear you lost a GT...I made the mistake once of keeping my GT with my Oscars...woke up to one on the floor and the other beaten and stressed...immediately removed my remaining GT and after a few weeks of hiding and recovery she's just fine now....good luck

Bummer, sorry to hear that. Sometimes community settings work, and other times not so much.

Agree with Neutrino.
Also bumping the temp up, may not be a great idea.
Stress lowers immunity, and often allows even non-pathogenic bacteria to become virulent, and bumping up the temp is often good for those bacteria, then becoming even more virulent.

Sorry to hear this! We all have been or will be here at some point, I am a fan of species only tanks now in my personal collections...learn from this and push forward...I've been keeping fish for 30 yrs and I'm still learning
