Definately a good deal, thats over $100 of fish...your lucky to even be gettin that. Most LFS will only give you store credit, and then most of the time thats not very much. So for being such small fish, and for being so relatively 'common'...your gettin a good bargain!
Around here some give 50% of sale price but that is limited to livestock only. Others give 33% and that is anything in the store. The only fish I ever got money for was Red Tiger Motaguense and that was because the first ones only spent a couple hours in the tanks.
For me, any $$ would be good. I have only wal mart, petsmart and petco. None of which will buy fish. I'll just give them away. It's fun for my family to watch the little ones grow. It's great for those of you in bigger cities to make a few$$ on your hobby.
$2.00 is great for only 1" GT fry! If you have the tank space, growing them out to 2 or 3 inches will possibly net you $3.00 a piece.
Remember, you are trying to compete with commercial breeders that raise thousands and thousands of fry at a time. With that said, I really think $2.00 (cash not store credit) is a good deal.
I've been raising cons for 3 years now and only 1 LFS near me gives me cash for them. And at that, it's only $1.00 for 2-3" fish.
A friend of mine has 300-400 1/2" GT fry right now. He's now testing waters to see how much he can get when they're 1". Hopefully, he can get $2.00.
sounds like a fair deal to me also, it will only take 1-3 months to get them to 1", then you'll get $80-100 in trade in credit, not too bad i dont think.
my lfs looks up the price in his catalogues to see what he buys off the suppliers. he'll then give me that price. normally it's store credit. last lot of fish i sold was convicts for $1.95(AU) a peice and they were only an inch.
