Hey everyone! Just recently joined and thought I show you all what's going on in my tanks right now. My pair of GT spawned 2 weeks ago and is caring for the fry. I did manage to remove about 20-25 and put them in a separate 5 gallon. The fry is currently being feed crush flakes and baby brine shrimp. Please leave comments about your GT experiences

Congrats on the fry:)
I currently have two batches of fry. One from a may spawn that are around 1in and another batch that that hatched around a week ago.
It's fun watching them grow and they are really easy to care for.

Do you know how long I should leave the fry with the parents

That depends on how many fry you want to keep and how well they care for them.

My male kills his fry. The female spends all her time defending and guarding them from their dad. I took the last six fry out from the may spawn just so my male wouldn't get beat up anymore.
This time around he has kept his distance a bit more, but the number of fry is always decreasing. I don't plan on keeping any from this batch, so m letting nature take its course.

If your plan is to raise fry I'd remove them all now. In the future you can remove them as soon as they all hatch. It is much easier to remove wigglers.

This is their first batch and so far have been great parents. The female basically tells the male what to do LOL. The male is not aggressive when it comes to the female. When I put the face in front of the tank the female would nudge the male to go do his job and then he'll start to flare at me.

In that case you can keep them in as long as they are both caring for them.

I'm curious, have you already talked to your lfs about selling/trading in fry?

I haven't fully decided what I'm doing with mine, but I can't keep them all. Haha

Yeah 3 of them said they'll take them. I have personal connections with the owners however, the closest lfs has very steep prices and they typically don't buy local breeds.

I'm also working on a festae breeding project just got 6 wc around 4-5in
