Well I gave in and bought 2 today. I was wondering what the easyest way to Sex thim is and how to tell if it is a Gold saum or GT. They Have Little green Eyes on there face with Gold trim on there Fins... They look realy good i will try to snap some pics soon. Thank you. O what is there Growth Rate.

There is a very good chance you have Gold Saums, as true GTs are quite rare in the hobby. How big are they? The best way to sex them is to post some pics and ask the members:)

In the mean time, try doing some searches on this site, and I think you will probably get a pretty good idea on the differences between male and female.

Well...it's kind of a trick question. A Gold Saum is what is commonly called a GT now a days. The REALLY GT isn't really seen in the market now a days. As for sex...I always went by how long the fins are.

Growth rate is pretty slow, from what I've heard. I've had mine since mid December and hes probably only grown 1.5-2 inches, maybe .5 inches per month.

if you got it from a LFS- no chance it's a True- rare in the hobby and imported by specialty cichlid imports once in a blue moon- even rapps doesn't import F0's anymore.

Ok, well I wont need the pics because I'm getting it from petsmart. I dont care if its a saum or the true green terror they look cool any way. What are the scientific names for the saum and true? I'm going to get one as soon as my tank is cycled.

Petsmart = gold saum

Both true and saums are part of the Aquendis riveltus (spelling is probably way off) species complex (unless this has changed recently). Saums are awesome have fun.

wether its a gold saum or a true gt you got a cool very similar fish most likley a gold saum though
