Good to hear he's healing up nicely. Ive used melafix for years to help heal wounds and abrasions. I dont think it really cures any particular diseases either, but it does seem to help the fish heal itself after being pretty torn up. I have a 4" female gt that got so beat up by a small convict, that i thought i was gonna lose her. Moved everyone to a larger tank added melafix and now she's the chaser and i constantly get compliments on how nice she looks. Other than one small tear in her dorsal, she looks good as new after about two weeks
