I know everyone says GTs are really slow growers but i thought I'd show you all mine who has grown from a little over 2" to just just under 6.5" in two months. In the first picture is him back in december and the second is him as of last week. Just goes to show with lots of food, competition, space and good water they can grow faster than even oscars ;).

I am not stressing the fish out by netting it and measuring it to please your ego. If you dont believe me fine. Your problem not mine.

sorry man, I gotta agree... not calling you out or anything just think it is a little off...

Just so you know I have had a GT for about 3 months and he grew from 2" to about 4-4.5 right now and looks very similar to yours size wise...

get a ruler up to the glass when he swims by, I bet you will see... it so hard to judge fish length when in the water... I always seem to overshoot it too...

I know for a fact he is over 5.5" as i had some other GTs in there and he was slightly larger than one of them. I removed them the other day and the one who is slightly smaller than him measured 5.5" out of the water so he is definately larger than that. So he is definately in the ball park of 6". Just so we are all clear the tail is included.

I don´t know how they measure fish in Cumbria, but we are talking about a place where the "outhouse" is alive and well. are you measuring the ENTIRE fish? cause its standard practise on the internet to only measure from the snout to the base of the tail. so yes if your fish has a 1"+ tail, and some terrors do have quite long tails then yes the fish is only 4"-4.5". I think this is where the confusion lies. so guys that are calling BS, its not the guys fault he is simply measuring the tail also. and Grant just remember in future to measure to the tail base. this site can have some pretty heated debates over small things like that so beware.

and as for growth rate? I have a female that has grown probably an inch in about 3 months

Wow that's great. I have a GT that's been in a 240 for a month and a half and he has only grown about an inch in that time. He's not much of an eater though.
Your GT looks like he's been eating like a champ!

MTBjake Thanks!
He eats like a like a pig. I think dominance is a key feature in growth also, because he was in with 4 other GTs which he soon became the dominant male of the group. But soon after that he became the boss of the tank, so this caused a rocket in size.

Strato: i was under the impression that the tail was included. For example - it is said a male GT can get to be 10-12" so a fish this size will have at least a 2" tail maybe even 3", therefore, making the GT 12-15"? I doubt that. I think the tail is included in length. It's still part of the fish right?
