Green Terror growth rate?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That is a nice male full of potential but to say it is 6.5" and grew 4.5" in two months is total BS! My male is 6.5" measured and take a look he looks way bigger than yours this pic is from december. I usually measure during a water change but you don't have to prove anything Im just letting you know its easier during a water change or when moving because they are a bit stressed anyways. My male grew from 3" to 7" in 9 months. Good luck with yours and keep us posted

Here is a pic taken in december he was 6.5" measured at the time I expect him to be a bit bigger now.

I agree that the second picture may be slightly misleading. And i forget you guys havent seen him in person. But my guy looks the same size as yours in person. I will steralise a ruler and drop it in and take a picture. As when i do water changes they dont even notice. So that seems the least stressful option.

As for the growth rate; it is what it is, when he was introduced to the tank on the 16th of december he measured just over 2".

MTBjake Thanks!
He eats like a like a pig. I think dominance is a key feature in growth also, because he was in with 4 other GTs which he soon became the dominant male of the group. But soon after that he became the boss of the tank, so this caused a rocket in size.

Strato: i was under the impression that the tail was included. For example - it is said a male GT can get to be 10-12" so a fish this size will have at least a 2" tail maybe even 3", therefore, making the GT 12-15"? I doubt that. I think the tail is included in length. It's still part of the fish right?

I´m not too sure about when talking about maximum size of fishes, but they always use the biggest possible there has been recorded specimens. so for example if most terrors only get around 9" there could have been one that was studied which grew to 15". and as far as I know you only measure to the tail base. which explains why everyone thought your fish was only 4" and started saying they didnt believe it.

Well as I say, I will drop in a ruler and measure from his nose to the base of his tail. But the point of this thread wasn't to argue about the length of my fish it was to let everyone know that my GT has grown over 4" in two months. Possibly even hear stories of everyone elses GT growth rate.

Hey, even if it is 4" growing 2" in 2 months is pretty impressive these guys are notoriously slow growers, an inch per month is Oscar growth rate.
I do know some people on here have had GT´s that grow really quickly but its not all that common.

If it is 4 inches ((nose to base of tail) i think it is probably larger than that)
then it has grown more than 2" because it was 2" nose to end of tail so its original length was nearer 1.5". Because of this measuring difference.

Nice gt but i have to agree with everone that going from 2 inches to 6 inch in 2 months is unheard of. you said your pics from dec to now but ur gt looks the same size in both pics. I luv gt and had/ have several myself. the ones i have had never grew that fast. the best i got was 1/2 per month for the first year then slowed down alot. i have seen a couple grow at a rate of 1in per month but 2inch a month is crazy, Never have i seen an gt with that kind of growth rate.

Are u sure it was 2inches, the first pic he looks way bigger then that.

you can see process of growth rate with my gt from 2in to 6+ inch over a year period here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?358855-My-baby-Gold-Saum&highlight=

My guy was a little over 2" nose to end of tail when i introduced him. I measured out of the water. As did the guy i purchased him from. And now he measures in the region of 6" nose to tail. This isn't a definate measurement. More of a hold a ruler against the tank and use sinking pellets to get him close.

Anyway, just because it isnt common - doesnt make it BS.

I think your fish looks fantastic, no matter how you measure him. My GT's were fairly slow growers, too, so even if the measurement wasn't spot on, he still grew fast and looks great! Well done.

What are you guys feeding your terrors to get them to have the light coloring? Mine are always very dark looking on their sides.
