So i rescued a beautiful Green Terror that my fellow Monster Keepers helped me identify (i have never owned one of these, i have mostly had africian).

He looks so much better in the last month that i have had him but do worry about his diet. When i first got him i couldnt get him to eat even after a giving him a couple days to adjust to the tank. So i threw a regular red worm in the tank and he immediately ate it. I have been feeding him worms but begun to worry if he should only be eating this food. I have read that they should have some type of green in their diet and that to much protein was not good for them.
Is this correct?
If so, how do you change a fish's diet when they love it so much?
I have a 10 gallon tank that has done nothing but grow java moss for the last 4 years. Would that be a way to start, by putting the java in the tank with him?
Thanks.

u do need to vary the foods your fish eats. you could either go out and buy 100 difrent kinds of foods until u find one or you can do the ( its this or noting method ) and just let him starve until he eats the pellets.

Not a Green Terror. He will just die, spitting out every food and looking at you spitefully as he gets thinner and thinner. Your best bet is to find a hungry fish. I'm fed up with my own GT after months of starvation attempts. He only eats a few specific bloodworms out of every cloud I put in there. He once ate a 'Sinking Carnivore Pellet' by Hikari, but never again. I've tried over thirty foods. He won't eat the meaty or the veggie. Or raw or blanched veggies. And I'm not feeding him worms till he dies of liver failure. I think he just wants to die, and I don't know why, so I'm going native and bringing home the Pumpkinseed Sunfish soon...

lol i feel u. my red devil wouldnt eat the new food i bought her so i starved her for 2 weeks until she finaly gave in now she loves the new food, its really frustrating when a fish doesnt eat what u give them.

SOMETIMES THEY TAKE AWHILE TO ADJUST. EARTHWORMS ARE ALMOST ALWAYS TAKEN. AFTER HE GETS SETTLED IN U CAN TRY GREEN PELLETS ALONG WITH REGULAR PELLETS. IS THAT THE ACTUAL FISH IN YOUR POST?

lol, I cant stop my GT from eating anything(pellets/worms/shrimp etc) I put in the tank. Not picky at all.

I personally would let the fish starve until it gets hungry. While possible I have never seen a fish startve itself to death. They will eventually give in. Stick to your pellets! Hikari gold!

had the same problem garlic worked
its also some sort of a disinfectant or something
is there anything funny with its poop?
garlic worked for my gt

lol, this thread makes me laugh. I have a Managuense that only eats pellets. I tried market shrimp, frozen krill, worms, beef heart, feeder fish, etc. Nope, only pellets -- and 1 specific brand of pellet (Tetra from Wal-Mart).

So, now I'm starving the little bugger until he eats his damn raw foods like nature intended. I'm so sick of being trained by my fish. They know exactly what to do to push my buttons and get what they want.

NO MORE I SAY!
