gt are no match for parachromis species. if these two types of fish start to fight say byebye to tha gt. IMO i think gt are the most variable in aggressiveness species of cichlid. i think that because i'ev heard so many stories of gentle-giants to killers. my two are passive now untill the female gets mature enough to breed-goodluck

am I the only one here who thinks it's part of good fish keeping (or should I say "responsible fish keeping") to learn the basics about a fish before buying it? How did you know it would work in this tank if you didn't know how big it gets?

Not trying to flame you but this is fundamental stuff thats available all over the net with a quick search

I'll take the high road and assume you're trying to confirm what you already have learned about them

Good luck

i do agree, and i believe 98% of the questions asked here and at every other fish forum, can be answerd with a 30 second google search, i would complain that people sould post more intellectual questions, but i know that's not going to happen.

How ever you dont get peoples personal expiriences through a google search. I think most people who post here may have a clue of what the answer is, but want opinions from other memebers who have exprienced something similar.

Thats what makes this place a forum.... Some people don't know and others do know. That what makes this fun and informative....Sometimes somebodys answer could give you an idea that could be shared with everyone......There that old saying 2 heads are better than one....Well thanks to the internet 2 million heads are better then one.

If people didn't ask questions... this forum would be dead. You would have one intellectual question a month...

sounds exciting eh?

plus...multiple personal experiences >>>>>>> what some fish site says that is owned by one person....

well before everybody try's to beat me down with a hose for having an opinion, i'll do my best to defend myself- i'm just saying, that all these, how big a tank do i need questions get boring, and it isn't useing the brain enough, a question that takes more than a 2-3 word reply is all i'm asking, i get impressed when an experience fish keeper, who accually knows what he's talking about posts a 2-3 paragraph reply, and half the memebers here, give the wrong info< everybody makes mistakes and were all here to learn, but in many cases i just find the mistakes genually novice. just my 2cents

What kind of fish would GT's be compatible with (cichlid wise) in say a... 75 gallon I suppose?

There names give off the impression that they are in the agression range of RD, Midas, Jags, ect. But I think one of my friends who knows nothing about fish threw 2-3 in a 75 with a JD and a convict and they lived ok until he got lucky (or unlucky i guess) and 2 of them paired up and slaughtered anything.

So how is the agression of ONE non breeding GT?

i have my GT with a female jag..they seem to do fine together..And my GT was a father a year back..but i lost the female Gt.. so even though he is a mature male he is the easy going one in the tank.
