Sometime after my GT pair spawned in my 120, the male developed white stringy poop. I pulled him and he is now in a 40 breeder. Water params are normal, female eats normal and is really liking the Omega-1 pellets i got this time. The fry seem okay.

So far I have tried treating the 40 gallon tank with API General Cure. Followed recommended dosage, 4 packets in the tank, waited 48hrs, 4 more packets, waited 48hrs, 50% water change. Also over the 4 days of treatment i force-fed him an eye-dropper full of a 3% Mag Sulfate solution with a bit of general cure mixed in. Its hard to get in the belly without it leaking from gills, so I don't know how effective it has been.

Needless to say none of the treatments have worked.

Can anyone share firsthand knowledge of ridding parasites from a cichlid?

I've read about Metro, Kanaplex, Erythromycin, Paraguard, treated foods....

This fish wont eat. The only thing I can think he would possibly eat is some frozen krill (which sinks) so maybe i could treat some krill?.....but I doubt it would absorb the meds.

Need to know best way to nuke these nasty things.

Metro and prazipro dosed to the tank. Feed metroplex or medicated food mixed with Epsom salt solution. Use seachem focus to bind with food. Keep temps 78-80.

Epsom salt sol - 1/2cup distilled water and 3/4tsp of epsom salt.

So Seachem Metroplex is the same thing as pure Metronidazole? If so then I might as well buy a bigger bottle off eBay. Saw one for 25 bucks.

That way I will have enough to dose tank and food right?

So what if the fish wont eat the food?

It works best when ingested. Can add some garlic to it or add some bloodworm liquid on the food to entice it. Seachem metro has pure metro in it. Can use hex shield or any other medication food with metro In it.

I was able to pick up a bottle of Prazipro but no luck on metro in my city. I will have to order them online.

In the meantime what else can i do besides treat the tank with Prazi?

Not much. Just monitor and keep the water pristine.

You will need something to bond the medication to the food, just adding metro to the food won’t work. Seachem makes a product that bonds the meds to the food I forgot the name of it. I can look when I get home.

Seachem focus.

I made a batch of the mag sulfate/general cure water and soaked some pellets in it and then dried them out. Hopefully he will eat some soon. He hasn't ate in a solid week or more.

kno4te kno4te ......you mentioned pristine water.... Should i be doing water changes? I havent messed with the tank since i treated it last night with the Prazipro.
