i'm refering to the posters pic. the facial markings and body is wrong for a Gold Saum, but it is definetly correct for Acara's. to each his own opinion though.

I will say why I agree this is an acara (or at least not a green terror or saum):

Green Terror: Has white, not red, on the top fin. Scales appear gold with black outline

Gold Saum: Has red, not white, on the top fin. Scales appear black with gold outline

Silver Saum: Has white, not red, on the top fin. Scales appear black with gold (or silver) outline.

The fish in the pic doesn't meet any three of these descriptions.

I thought this thread was gone and forgotten. Anyway its been a few weeks but there is now a more noticable red fringe in the caudal fin. The colouring is more or less the same. I am due to receive a group of 6 3-4cm green terrors tomorrow so I shall be able to compare.
I have incidently looked around in shops and on the net and I have seen large colour and shape variations in what people class as Aquidens Pulcher(Blue Acara), I am beginning to suspect that breeders have been poorly selecting breeding fish and hence that is why the confusion between Rivalatus and Pulcher is so common.

Telling between a saum/terror and a blue acara is easy.
It's telling which "blue acara" the blue acara is that's confusing and often never gets a definite answer.
A. pulcher, A. coeruleopuntatus, A. latifrons and A. sapayensis all look very similar and may be found as "blue acara". Often the only difference is the location of which your fish came from. Unless you know where in SA your fish originated then you will likely never have an answer as to what species you fish is. Most you will know is that it is a "blue acara".
And like anyone here with an observant eye has noticed it does look more like a blue acara.
