im actually going to go with male just a late bloomer, especially after seeing the video, my male from a pair i used to have took forever to color up but once he got a little bigger than yours is now his colors really popped.
also, an easier way to vent than netting them out is to feed heavily for a couple days and then after a couple days do another large meal of like worms or something so they totally gorge themselves and their bellies should become so full that their private bits poke out like they do when breeding so you can see them with them still swimming around
