My new, I'm assuming girl? Repairing the fins now, has a great personality already. Sorry it doesn't stay still for pics long

Nice male, I'm in the process of growing a male out as well. I didnt know rapps had the gold saum variety I thought his were all the silver saums right now. Very cool.

A lot of people have been jumping on the silver saums lately and they are cool but in my opinion you just can't beat the color of the gold saums. Even though they are more common, I've always liked the rivulatus species due to the color intensity. I have heard that the silver saums are bigger terrorizers though, which may mean they have more personality. I think I might have just talked myself into owning both species to make some comparisons.

They are both the same species, both are andinoacara rivulatus. They are just different colours.I think you may be thinking of andinoacara stalsbergi, this fish also has silver colouring and tends to be very aggressive in comparison to rivulatus.

I got his last one in the 3 to 4 inch size range. And yea the stalsbergi is what your referring too. But I'm with you I prefer the "classic " orange trimmed green terror.

I coulda swore I was recently told the Gold and Silver are different but the TRUE GT, Stahlsbergi is the one they call "White Saum"

I'm far from the expert. But your probably right. So many different names and lfs mislabeling them it get confusing lol. But I just know the two i was looking at on Jeffs site were the rivulatus ( the one I got ) and the stalsbergi described with the silver/white trim.

That's right, the stalsbergi was the bigger aggressor. I didnt realize both the silver and gold trim came with the rivulatus. Are the stalsbergi pretty aggressive?

Very, in my experience.I had a pair a few years back and they were very aggressive. I have found rivulatus are very easy going in comparison.

It's a common misconception that stalsbergi is the true GT.
It isn't.
Rivulatus was the original fish collected and called green terror. To make things more confusing, Rivulatus comes silver/white edged and orange/red edged, therefore is also known as silversaum or gold saum.
Stalsbergi is often regarded as the true GT but it is not.The fish has white /silver edges so is also called silver saum.
This is why common names are confusing, they often apply to more than one species. If the andinoacara were only called by their Latin names this confusion would not exist.
