My Saum lately hasn't shown any interest in food... Ive tried all his favorite pellets, nothing!
He use to be one of the most responsive and interactive fish I have but now he doesn't seem to notice or care. Ive checked the water parameters and they are as follows:
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10ppm
Ph 7.2
Temp 78'F

Its been 4-5 days since he's eaten and I'm getting horribly worried... :( the only thing I can think of is possible internal parasite or something else?

Anything advice will be much appreciated!!

Hmmm... same with mine, maybe it's that time of the season? A lot of similar threads coming out lately. Mine still eats everyday though, but definitely less than before.

Can you tell us more about your GT and where he's being kept?

Wow really?! That's odd!! Maybe it does has something to do with the time of year.

He's around 2 years old. Wild Caught. Ive had him about a year. He's in a 55g tank, about 7".

Could possibly be internal parasite. Have you noticed the poo lately? Is it clear and stringy looking?

I've treated my GT before for internal parasites as he didn't eat for five or six weeks. I used metronidazole, commonly called flagyl to treat in an isolation tank and he came good after about 10 days.

Below is a recent quote of advice:
Regarding loss of appetite. I was reading an article I can't remember the name, but in the wild cichlids will go for months without eating, because of possible predators. It also mentioned that they will only eat what they need so there isn't a weight disadvantage as such. Keeping them ready for battle if you get me?

Any tankmates? Pictures?

He is probably stressed out from the other fish. If he is, I would recommend moving him to his own tank. There's a lot of posts on this same issue with Green Terrors, Saums in the forum. Lower your temperature to 75 degrees. Keep it there until he has rebounded. Feed him sparingly until he comes around. Don't overfeed during this time. Good luck!
Try his suggestion. He is a GT expert and breeder.

He can go weeks without food so don't worry too much.

Soak the food in a garlic dip and he may take it. If not, I would try epsom salt:

Add a tablespoon to 500ml of pure water and let it dissolve. Catch him, and use a pipette to squirt some down his throat. Ensure he ingests it and doesn't just expel it via the gills. I used 3 pipettes (9ml) on a 2" fish, so look at about 20ml. Repeat every 24 hours for 3-6 days. Then leave it two days and attempt to re-feed.

Works miracles trust me.

Wow thank you for the links! He is in the tank by himself. He isn't shy persay, He just doesnt respond to human interaction like he use to. He use to get so excited when I'd come in the room, now he kinda sulks around the tank.

If I don't see a change in a few days should I start treating for internal parasites?

Thanks everyone for the advice!!!

He looks real nice!

I would try garlic soaking his pellets and if still nothing then I would treat him. Don't use commercial addatives as IME they don't work. The epsom salt treatment is much easier, cheaper and far more effective.
