Hi , I got my green terror about 5 months ago at about 3 inches it has only grown 1 inch does anyone have any suggestions. Sorry about the quality of the picture I did my weekly eater change right after
Discus,angelfish,elbjd,oscar,turwoisejewelcichlid,blackghostknife,pearl gouramis,giantgourami,denisonbarbs,bluephantompleco,vampireshrimp,sailfinoleco,
80 degrees Fahrenheit
Water change once a week 50 percent
75 gallon
Green Terrors come from rivers that flow down the western side of the Andes.
Those waters are usually a bit cooler, (mid 70s), than the Amazon region where soft water in the 80s is common.
I believe growth in cichlids relies on water changes more than anything else, and think a 50% water change in a 75 gal tank, is not enough to promote good growth
Ok, stock for the tank is very heavy, but I’m sure you know that already. If you want your terror to look it’s best it needs to be the top boss in the tank. Yours has a lot of competition right now.
I agree with
duanes water changes are a top impacter for growth. Even when I just had 2 gts and some tetras in my 75g I did 70%+ water changes once to twice a week. Twice being more ideal.
The temp being at 80 does make them more aggressive, hungry, hence growing more.....but it can negatively impact their overall health if you keep the temps high consistently.
78 is better. I let my temps fluctuate with the seasons a bit.
75% or more every other day while you still have the same stock would be a big improvement. It will benefit all your stock to have as much fresh water as possible.
I agree with MrsE88, your tank is way overstocked, you are soon going to need a tank in the 6ft range for the oscar, so taking about half the fish and putting them in another tank would be best.
I'm not surprised the GT isn't growing in such a crowded tank.
All fish exude growth inhibiting hormone, so unless you are changing a lot of water regularly only the alphas of the group will put on significant size.
Many of the fish (especially cichlids) come from very low nitrate environments.
Curious to see what your normal nitrate readings are just prior ro a water change?
