Green Terror Ok With Plants?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I mgiht try it. My tank isnt too planted, I got about 10 plants. Anacharis, Wendii Crypt plants, some swords and some other cheap plant. Its not the cost or the look so much, but I think its better for my BGK in there. Although, the BGK hides in a log like 80% of the time. The plants are in corners, I have a few short plants in the middle of the tank and I got a long Anacharis plant right next to a log. Im struggling with whether I should get a GT or a Salvini or maybe even an Oscar. I just dont know, Im sure theres a high chance the plants will get shredded.

even if plants that get planted into the gravel dont work its worth trying the plants that need tied to wood such as anubias and java fern. the anubias should fare a little better due to their thick waxy leaves if the GT does decide to teach them a lesson. use black cable ties rather than fishing twine as they are stronger and resist anything a GT will put out.

I have Just planted some plants in my 125 gallon not to long ago. At first had issues with the oscar or the dempsey uprooting the amazon swords but then I put rocks around them and it seemed to solve the issue. They just wanted a swimming lane on the back side of the tank now they do not bother the plants

Would a green terror and plants be a good mix? I know big cichlids destroy them, but is it always the case, or is there instances where some cichlids dont harm the plants?

What are some medium/large cichlids that are OK with live plants? Thanks

Young green terrors tend to be okay with live plants but when they are adolescents, or especially adults, they will more than likely uproot the plants or destroy them. Adult green terrors really enjoy digging, especially mating pair that are establishing boundaries and a safe haven. So the answer for long term, no, they would not be okay with live plants. Plastic is fine but this is very annoying having to mount them very frequently! I hope this helps! :)
