I'm interested in getting some Green Terror Cichlids here soon, in hopes of getting a pair. I've been looking online at some different pictures and video clips of them and see that some have a nice purple looking body and others have a duller less purple colored body.

First question....Is this purple tint on their body due to genetics, tank conditions, proper feeding, or a combination of all 3?

I also see that some stay a little smaller (around 6 to 8 inches) and some get more around 12 inches (the males anyways). I'm sure this is partly due to water conditions, but am wondering if the size of the tank has anything to do with it.

Second question....If I raise the Green Terrors in a 135 gallon, will they get to be around 12 inches?

And last but not least, there is a lot of conflicting web pages talking about the different temperatures to keep them at. Some say low 70's to around 75, others say 75 to 81 degrees. I'm trying to figure out the best conditions for these cichlids because I want them to grow as big as possible.

So....What temperature is ideal for Green Terrors?

All 3

There are lots of factors involved with the eventual size of the fish as with the tint of their tail. Usually colors get better with age and if they are breeding along with tanks size, feeding, tankmates, etc

Depends on all the factors, but 135 is sufficient size for 2 GT

78 is standard, any higher and you increase aggressiveness. During breeding, kick it up to 80

Any other questions feel free to ask

You know I didn't even think that breeding might slow down growth. If they did breed at an earlier age, do you think this would keep them from growing to their potential? I'm most likely going to get some Gold Saums because I doubt I'll find any true greens at my LFS. I've read that the gold saum green terror gets bigger than the true green, is this true?

bigger is better but less agro is wacko ;)....Oh well, I guess you have to compromise one or the other. Anyone know of somewhere online to get a true green terror?

temp at 80, and clean water and quality foods in a 135 and your looking at a beast of a green terror. although if they are spawning it may slow down there growth some.

x2. Another thing to remember is they are slow growers in general, but with a little patience you'll have some beautiful fish in a 135. Best of luck

Jeff Rapps does have some F1 fry from a wild caught True Green Terror pair. I might got with that but I dunno because I really like the bright orange on the gold saums. I'm gonna sit on that one, I got another questions though.

I'm probably going to go with 10 fry in hopes of a breeding pair. Should I get the fry from different stores, so that hopefully I get a pair from different batches of fish, or should I just get the fish all from the same batch? I've never had a pair of cichlids and don't want to inbreed if its bad.
