Hello everyone, I just re-did my tank this weekend to an American cichlid tank. I've always want to have a full grown male GT hopefully i picked right. I got this guy the other day, could you please sex him for me. My guess was he's a male but I do not see any evidence of a nuchal hump. He's about 5.5".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

O, and sorry for the crappy pics he doesn't sit still and all i have is a camera phone.

The first Green Terror primarily in the focus of the photos is absolutely male. I can not really identify the second Green Terror without closer pictures with more clarity I hope this helps! :)

Also just so you know, male Green Terrors do not always get a nuchal hump. ;) So he may develop the nuchal hump very soon, he could develop it very late in the future, or he could even never develop it at all. Also some may get the nuchal hump, just to different degrees.

Thanks for the quick responses! Glad to hear its a male. Would you guys know why he doesn't have a hump on his head yet? Does it take a while for that to develop? I didn't even notice the second GT photo bombed lol I'm pretty sure that one is a girl. I've also heard that if they are a pair that my other fish would be in danger if they spawn. Any truth to that?

Depends on tank size but most likely yes

Just saw the post about the hump. Hopefully he gets one. Would u know about what size it starts showing?

This really just depends on the fish's genetics and the environment. Like previously mentioned, some Green Terrors develop the nuchal hump and some do not develop the nuchal hump. I have personally seen a Green Terror start conveying an obvious nuchal hump as early as an inch and a half including the tail. Ironically his partner was a Blue Acara, and she laid eggs but the male was way too young and immature to fertilize the eggs. Anyway, the fish can start conveying the nuchal hump at just about any size depending on the fish's genetics and the particular environment he is inhabiting; although most would probably convey the nuchal hump at greater sizes than my smallest experience. :) I hope this information helps, and sorry it took so long to reply back. :)
