Green Terror tank mates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There are many others that have an adult GT in a 55 without issue.

Doesn't mean that the fish are happy or healthy. Green Terrors are pretty big fish and can truly be Terrors in my experience. I would say 75gallon minimum for 1 and a couple small friends. 55gallon might seem fine now since they are small but they will get bigger and you will begin to see that 1 is cramped let alone with other decent sized fish.

Average male Gt hits 10-11 inches and the average 55 is 12 inches wide no fish deserves to be that crammed. Plus putting him in with other fish would cause tension at best and slaughter at worst

Other people drink and drive and get lucky too. Just because people do it, doesn't mean it's right to do. No one's going to stop you clearly. However, if you're going to ask for advice, then that's what most of us will give you :)

a 55g is fine to grow a GT out in, but as was already said a 75g is the minimum you would 'fairly' keep a GT. They get quite large if taken well care of and a 12" wide tank... well fit yourself in a 2' hallway and try to turn yourself around and maneuver. It's the same thing you'd be doing to that GT at full size.

As I said in one of my posts, I had a 4-5" female GT and carpintis in a 75g and even at 4-5" the female GT had claimed the entire 75g for herself and I had to rehome the carpintis.

Also Tiger I think your GT is the certified tank boss and that's why he's mellow. Add an actual threat or challenge and his whole demeanor may change. I have a butti that lives peacefully w jewels and yellow labs. I can add cons or other small cichlids and he doesn't care. He was in the big tank w the O and Jag originally w more floor space and he was a whack job. Which is why he's the only big fish in his tank now. A lot of times they don't show aggression to fish that pose no threat.

Ok you guys have me reconsidering the GT idea. It is one of my favorite looking freshwater fish, but visualizing a full grown one in my 55 does look cramped. So how about some suggestions for something else.
