i picked GT because i think oscars are more common, and ive never been able to really keep a gt cuz they always grow too slow and end up getting picked on in my tanks

Here is my 2 cents. As far as aggression and personality goes GT and Os are pretty similar. Both are pretty personable, and generally mellow fish with little aggression.

As far as growth rate goes Os win hands down, not only do Oscars grow faster but they also grow much larger than GTs do. GTs are pretty slow growers but if you have the patience it is pretty awesome to have a GT that is 6-10".

As already stated GT are better looking and more colorful, but Os can be pretty damn stunning as well just look at Knifegill's.

The one pro that GTs have over Oscars is that they are not as messy, hence they are lower maintenance.

When it comes to which fish is better it all boils down to personal preference. My vote goes to the GT.

By the way if you have a GT that is not eating, something is wrong with it. GTs are great eaters, they are generally not very aggressive however then can become very aggressive during meal time. The one that I have is very competitive when it comes to food. If yours won't eat it might be sick.

Everyone says oscars have "personality". I just find it an annoyance to have a fish that you'll never see the side of. And it gets worse, if you keep a fish with an oscar that rushes to the front of the tank 24/7, they'll very often pick up on it too. When I had my 75 running I never saw the sides of my oscar or mundis.

I know that Oscars are real personal at first, always coming to the front of the tank, are GT's this way too or real skittish like?

Oscars aren't just real personal at first, once they get this way (usually immediately after they're done sulking and pouting) they don't stop. My GT wasn't skittish or personal, he just cruised the tank like it was nobodies business.

Thats what i mean it takes oscars barely any time for them to recognize their owner and come to the front of the tank. I just dont want to go feed them and the GT run away from me.
