I don't understand the fasination with hybrid garbage fish that are deformed.
At least Flowerhorns look like fish.

I agree. Hybrids can be pretty cool like flowerhorns and different combinations like Sal x Con, Tex x Con and Dovii x RDs but those that are made deformed (like balloons, bloodparrots and such) are just wrong. Its like making people purposely born with a third leg.

How do you feel about the "short bodied" fish that are bred? Not sure where I really stand on the hybrid issue, I do have a few though.

well here it is, it may not look overstocked but I think it is. The residents are as follows;

1 - 5-6" blood parrot/red devil mix
1 - 5" rainbow shark
1 - 6" blue gourami
1 - 3" pearl gourami
4 - 4-5" clown loaches
3 - 3-4" yo yo loaches
4 - 1.5" red bay snooks
20-25 assorted mollies, platies, and swords
8-10 - 2-3" chinese algae eaters

and I'm sure there is something else that I just can't think of right now.

filtration is one magnum 350 with the "carbon container" filled with Ehfisubstrat. Monthly water changes of 15 gallons. 1 gallon of R/O water added weekly for evaporation. Co2 added by Nutrafin "Plant Grow Co2 System" with the brew changed every 2-3 weeks. lighting is 2 65 watt 10000k and 2 6500k lamps at twelve hours a day.

Water params tested weekly and are as follows:
ammonia and nitrite are zero, nitrates are 5 -10 ppm pH is a steady 6.8.

Your so silly, were did I ever state that I hate Hybrids? Looks as if you went though alot of searching to prove that I own hybrids, all the way back to March of last year. If you would have just took the time to read post #13, I had already stated that I own some Hybrids:ROFL:

I doubt GT's will hybridize with many other fish, since they are in a different genus than other large cichlids.

no sorry i havent had to go to my lfs lately

I pretty much signed up just to discuss this topic, actually.

Over a year ago, I was sold a fish which was labeled "Parachromis Polymas". The store had acquired a batch of them via some dealer who said it was a new, unlabeled species that he'd found in Mexico.

In its infancy, it kind of looked like juvenile Blue Acara. I placed the fish in a tank with primarily South American cichlids. Never had any major tiffs or anything within the community. As it got older, it developed a several vertical stripes along its sides, and the coloring was kind of an iridescent blue.

I spent months looking for info on the species known as "Parachromis Polymas", hoping something would pop up, though it never did. I even asked several other cichlid experts at local shops about the breed, and none of them knew anything about it.

Just recently, I checked back with the shop I acquired the fish from, and one of the specialists had an update for me. He told me that they had been duped by the dealer, and the breed was a Jack Dempsey/Red Terror hybrid. Funny note: Days earlier, I had purchased a Red Terror. When I added it to the tank, the "Parachromis Polymas" and the Red Terror immediately paired up, and seem inseparable at this point.

However, for some reason, I kind of suspect that this fish might be a Green Terror x Jack Dempsey hybrid. As it matured, the dorsal fin has an orange fringe identical to what I see in my greens.

Anyway, it's a cool little fish. I've heard it gets to only be about 8 inches long, and the blue hues really start to pop with maturity. It always seems to fascinate "fish people" who visit our home. In fact, we've all started referring to it as a Blue Terror.

I'm going to actually try to get some pictures of this fish in the next week, too. Just having camera issues at the moment.
