And its fins are torn up, which doesn't help. Males usually have long trailing dorsal and anal fins.
 
First pic is a nice GT, text book, shows perfect colouration of Aequidens Rivulatus the true GT.

Not so sure about 2nd pic. It's an Aequidens could be juvie Silver Saum or a Sapayensis.

first is not a True Gt it's a Gold saum..

2.- wrong again, it's another saum, just beat up, with torn orange Rear Fins...
 
Ooops think your right about first pic didn't notice orange on fins - Doh!

2nd pic is an Aequidens all Saums are! Noticed no orange on dorsal thats all

don't expect to see alot of True's around fish forums, myself and 2-4 other members here are the only people i know who keep them. One of which is a Breeder (Tom Lorenz) and a couple others. every other "GT" you'll see is ethier a gold or silver saum, not a silbersaum, or A. Rivulatus.
 
Females usually have a more sloped forehead vs. a males steeper forehead. Also, females tend to be more stout in the body with a bit less color.

It's a lot of small things that add up...

Here are a couple shots of my male for comparison. Not the best, but it will help you get an idea.
