GT's are one of my favorite fish and I have 5 adults and 5 babies about 2-3 inchs. the babies are 7 months old. The female ( 5 inch ) is more of a pain to other fish then the male ( 10 inch ) is but isn't really mean unless she is spawning .
I think that you may have 2 females but I have seen the males lose their color when they are bullied or in a tank with other larger males.
As for cichlids not eating other cichlids remember that if it can fit in their mouth it might be food
