if the GT is male then anything smaller than a 55g is cruel. you could probably get away with a 40 long if it was a female.
although imo these are the absolute minimums, they are far from ideal. a 4ft tank begins to look tight once a fish reaches 8" and male GT's have the potential for 12"+.

i have personally kept a male GT with the following:
clown loaches
bristlenose plecos
sailfin plecos
parachromis loisellei only one aggressive fish per tank unless a very massive community with several dithers
gold severum
oscar oscar will get ass whooped when the GT gets 6"
firemouth
convicts
banded rainbow fish
uaru A.
midas Far too much aggression
senegal bichirsMy GT harasses my delhezi a lot

i have noted from various posts here and around other forums that they do particularly well with:
silver dollars
pim. pictus
as a bonded pair
Just some thoughts on those tankmates

my Gt was 6" when i added the oscar and it was the psycho sev that killed it.
the loisellei got whipped by the sev also, no aggression from the GT.
as for the midas, look at my sig. she is 9" and my GT coming up to 5". with no aggression and they are in a 65g tank.
neither the GT nor midas bother the senegals.

all my male GT's have been great and all have been far from a pushover. all my fish have been great apart from the hyper aggressive severum. each fish has its own personality. thats half the fun with larger cichlids. there are fish that go against the grain of their family.

30 gallons is too small for a GT like the others have said.

And any other large SA or CA cichlid may or may not work with one.It is really up to the fish what it will put up with,or what will put up with it.

Cichlids are anything but predictable. And what works for one person, may not work for you.Having a back up plan on what to do with the fish if it does not work out is a good idea.

If you want to keep another fish with it,get a 75 gallon tank.

As you heard once or twice, the tank you have just isn't a good size.

When I had my two GT's, I had them with:
JD
Texas
Green Sev
Vieja of some sort
Clown Loaches
Pictus Cats
Tiger Botias
Royal Pleco

Never once bothered anyone from the bottom of the tank, and got along fine with everyone else.

It depends what size tank you have. For green terrors they need atleast 55 gallon.
If you got a 55 gallon try maybe a
1.firemouth cichlid
2.convict
3.sevrums
4.maybe another green terror (thats puching it)
5.jack dempsey (might be pushing it to)
