Ok cause ive noticed with my bit bigger texas when hes defending territory around his gills and the bottom of its head turns almost black

Yeah that's a carpintis breeding dress. Towards the back and under the jaws they can go jet black.

Yeah ive only really noticed it when it goes very territorial,nice colours when it happens tho.
