Green Texas growth and behavior

I'm concerned that the Texas cichlid will eventually kill your Oscar. They grow up to be seriously hardcore aggressive and Oscars are not equipped to win that fight.

You mentioned that they have gotten along in the past but this may change as your Texas cichlid matures. Your Oscar is beautiful and I'm sure you don't want anything bad to happen to him.

Thanks man, I totally agree with you. The previous oscar was much more docile, sadly i had to euthanize her. This big guy is much more aggressive though, and in the event that the tables turn I will be ready. I think I have some time before it comes to that

I'm going to keep a close watch on the tank. The Texas has a good size rock cave to hide in if he gets too rough, and the oscar cannot fit in the opening.

I just find the behavioral change in the oscar to be odd...

I have moved him through 4 tanks, changed scapes/substrate numerous times. Has lived with a pleco and a GT growout (about 4-5'') for some time now....he never changed his attitude towards me though.

Hes just hovering in the corner staring at me as i type this, slowly pacing back and forth, as if hes plotting how hes gonna take me out.
 
Took a few years hiatus from the hobby, but this Texas is still alive and well in 2026. Sometime after this thread died off I donated him to another fish keeper. They called me a week later asking me to take him back. This poor guy had the bridge of his nose chewed off from being attacked in the new tank he was added to. So I decided he would live out his days alone in a 75gal. He fully healed after some months and he's doing very well despite fighting his reflection most of the day. He's roughly 7 or 8 inches tip to tip now, never grew that big, but definitely good shape and coloration. I named him Pablo
