I have a batch of eggs from this pair
Red texas female 2.5"
Green texas male 5"
I am very surprised by this spawn. Hopefully things go well. I'll update in a few days.

Congrats. I didn't know the red texas could spawn so early.

i had a female that was 1.5 inch turn completely black and drop her tube!!! they can breed very early....problem is once they start ...they dont stop...if you want her to grow ...separate her out till she is little bigger for breeding.

+1 Bigger females lay more eggs and bigger eggs usually. Bigger eggs = bigger fry= easier to get them eating and more making it= better chance of getting quality offspring for the next generation.

The cool thing about this early spawn is if they hatch you no she is fertile as a hybrid. Then it is easier to move her to where she can grow up some before breeding her again and not be wasting your time if that is why you have her.

Crazy! She only laid around 100 eggs. I think I will move her to her own tank for a while and let her grow a bit. Thanks Chris, how did that female turn out for you?

Oh yeah. It sucks, wasting time and space trying to find breeders. Hopefully I have some wigglers in a few days, would be nice!

Is it possible for a female to lay eggs that are no good, I guess I'm asking if a sterile female can lay eggs? I always assumed if a female laid eggs, they were good. Is that the case?
