Green Tree Python Swollen Jaw

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If a jaw is misaligned, and she could have caused this by biting you, than chances are it will straighten itself out.

However, it could be broken, dislocated, some teeth can be broken inside and would need to urgently being taken out.

My suggestion, based on my experience, is the following:

when something odd happens with a GTP one needs to immediately look and try to ascertain what the problem is.

In this regard, you need to know and to be able to, open the snake's mouth to take a look inside.

To open its mouth you pry it open with the wooden spatula I described in my earlier post or with a credit card.

It is the only way to see if it is wounded, if there are loose teeth inside, if there is cheesy stuff inside.

If you are not apt tod o it ( some are not ) then the norm is to run to the vet.

Again, based in my experience, the "let us see how this develops approach", give it a couple of days approach, does not fare well with GTP's. The moment you decide to go, after all, to the vet, the snake is considerably worse and treatment will be more difficult and costly.

Anyway, kep us posted, please.

I took a look in her mouth (thanks for the tips) and didt see anything wrong with that side of her mouth. it looks normal. I also talked to my dad's friend who is a vet and he said it probably happened whrn she bit me and to bring her in. So i am going today.

Great news!!! The swelling went away the vet did something (idk what). Anyways I will make a thread with plenty of pics soon:headbang2

good news

Shes doing better the bump went away completely when she shed (anyone know why) ill try to get a pic up today.

good to hear.

She shed okay? All in one piece?

From what I could see in those pictures previously posted, it seems the snake had an infection in it's lower jaw. You can see the yellowish, cheesy puss buildup fairly well in those pictures. I'd only assume the vet cleaned out the jaw, and gave some antibiotics to your snake. Though, I'd be surprized that one injection would rid your snake of the infection. It's possilbe the vet filled in the infectous hole with something to keep it clean while the antibiotics and the snake's immune system had time to catch up and heal the jaw.
