Dude, You said it was an easy snake, and you dont keep snakes and only a GTP. I'm surprised it didnt die. Was it your first snake? I dont meen to be a douche, but theyre extremely hard to takecare of if you have neve rkept snakes before...

well explain to us why the average snake keeper would be so overwhelmed by this snake?

I've heard they're actually not that hard to take care of if you're willing to spend a little money right from the start and if you do your research. Lots of snakes, especially many of the pythons that haven't been kept by a ton of people, have reputations for being extremely difficult to keep in captivity because of the high percentage of wild-caughts that made up captive populations for a long time.

Obviously, he wasn't willing to spend $250+/- on a proportional thermostat and a couple of small radiant heat panels. Not to flame him or anything, but it can be hard when you're that young to come up with that kind of money. Even though he bought two very expensive snakes...

Take a look at this:

They arent exactly difficult, but they arent the same as any other snake. They require specialized care, of wich you will find in those links. :)

could you save an old man some time and condence all that info to a couple of paragraphs of your own, on the care of this animal.

and by saying there "not exactly difficult to take care" of is in a way going right over your own words of there "extremlely hard" to take care of:nilly:

i bread them a couple times long ago, they were easy, temp and humidity were the hardest part but whats hard about that if your set up is good,i held mine to,very tame,in sunlight however or bright light theyer pupils almost disapear so fast movements in front of them provoked striking.they tend to stop feeding near winter and can scare you but i just kept mine warm most of the time.for me,the biggest pain in the a was my brazil rainbow.

Well, man every snake has specialized care requirements. I don't think we're trying to make out that they're as easy as corn snakes, but they're not going to wither away to nothing because someone can't exactly replicate it's natural Australiasian rainforest habitat down to the way the atmospheric pressure varies from day to day.

For the average person, they would be extremely hard to take care of. Such as, someone buys a cornsnake, then decides I want a GTP. They try to handle it like a cornsnake, it gets stressed, possibly bites them, and thry cant figure out why. Or, they dont understand the concept of humidity, GTP gets dehydrated, and dies. GTP's LOVE humidity, and do not like to be handled. And caging has to be made so that when you do infact spot clean, you can remove the snake and branch its on so that the stress is kept minimul. And its very hard to tell if your getting a CB or WC animal, and if you do infact get a WC GTP, you are probably going to not want snakes anymore. Most snakes that are WC could have parasites, you get a GTP with parasites it even harder as they are very specialized snakes, wich stress very easily, and could die during treatment as you will most likely need to handle the snake during treatment.

You cant just put one in a 20 long with aspen shavings, heat lamp, and mist it every once in a while like a corn snake.

Most people can't provide specialized care for them. Most people are not willing to give these guys 70-80% humidity and clean the cage frequently to prevent molding. Not to mention a lot of people LIKE to handle their snakes, and for the most parts these guys are cage-defensive. Also, sometimes it can be difficult to monitor the temperature since you have to place the probe in the right place.

It is not impossible, just hard to get it off the ground. It is easy to monitor them, but not so easy to set up and get routine in place.
