Ive been haveing an algae problem in one of my tanks. I red about this simple solution and it was surprised when it cleared up my tank!
Just put a willow branch in the tank, make sure it is long enough to stick out the top and thats it.
Apperently they are nutrient hogs, and the algea just dies off.

Note the leaf and root growth on the willow branch, this was cut a week and a half ago, in the middle of winter.

the pics are from an iphone so it doesnt do the change justice, but believe me its incredible.

have a look!

Interesting....I wonder how it would do to just have it growing out of your tank? That could make for something pretty cool...

Not sure the Type, just a willow i had growing on my property, And i think if you keep it in there to long the other plants will die off too, notice the short grassy looking stuff, its a little thinner then the first pick.
i will remove the willow when i have enough plants in there to battle the algea on its own.

That's pretty amazing. Maybe you could have a whole tank with nothing but willows! Or, you could make a plant filter using just willow branches. The possibilities are endless!

Hmmm lati, might have to scrap the planted tank idea. (already have a couple) and trim a few more branches and see what happens.

Or, you could just get another (bigger) tank! That's how I got into the mess I'm in! I'm using my sump as a partial plant filter which is great since hornwort is a great nitrate eater, but my goldfish EAT the hornwort. Now, I have a nursery for lots of my hornwort safe from fishy mouths!

Hehe, I already got 2 55's, a 30 something, a 20, a 15hex and 3 10s. I'm at my limit until I shut some of them down. :)

take down the 30 20 15 and 10s, add em up and replace with a 90+ haha

--- On a more serious note, thanks for the tip if I ever run in to this issue i'll be sure to try and find a willow somewhere lol

Interesting! And thank you for the idea. I haven't had an algae bloom yet...but if I ever do, I have a nice healthy willow outside ready to go :)
