feeder tank
I got a 120gallon tank with a 4-65 watt compact fluorescent fixture. I believe this is too much light and my green water problem won't go away. I've tried the dark treatment and leave the lights off for like 1.5 weeks. It seemed to clear up about 75% then it goes back to what it was in about 3 days. Do I have too much light? I'm not growing any high light plants, only anubias and java fern. This is because my fish will uproot any other plants I put in. If I keep doing 30% water changes every 3 days, will this help get rid of the problem? Any help appreciated. :)

I would suggest getting a UV steralyzer, it will clear it up and keep it that way.
that'll work or you might just be able to cut down the duration of time the lights are on each day. the plants should be fine with 6-8 hrs of light per day until the problem goes away. then try 8-10 per day

its on like 4 hours a day right now. you think the light is too strong? would co2 injection help?

UV sterilizer. then my friend, you will see the LIGHT!

:iagree: I had the same problem. HAD. I battled for a long time with chemicals, lighting, water changes. I have not had even a hint of a algae bloom since I got a UV.

my lighting is strong for what kind of plants i got in there. but if i buy an UV light, the algae will go away completely? even though my lighting is super strong and i got no co2 injection?
