Green water problem

invest in a UV:thumbsup: hook it up to your filteration system.

what you mean hook it up to my filtration system? i got 2 emperor 400's.

here a link http://www.****************/information/uv_sterilization.htm

Again, UV sterilizer only treats the water that passes through it. So, it will only kill free floating algea and not the stuff growing on rocks and Etc. Likewise, will not kill the good bacteria in your filters, substraight etc.

I use to have the same problem with my planted tank.

short term solutions
- get a diatomaceous earth filter and leave it on over night (very effective)
- partial water change
- leave lights off for a few days
- carbon (I haven't tried it)

long term solutions
- increase number of plants you already have
- decrease fish you have
- increase water circulation throughout tank
- reduce lighting to less than 8 hours a day (don't reduce light intensity, it won't help)
- co2 injection (very effective)
- do more partial water changes
- add another filter (I recommend a BioWheel)
- get a UV sterilizer (very effective to free floating algae)
- introduce algae eaters (shrimp, ottos, etc.) (limited effect but rids some of clinging algae)
