I put the Turkana PBB at #1 as it's the only bichir that I saw with overall green color. I know some are not as it depends on individual. But as far as Koliba, polli and retro goes they still got some yellowish to brownish present on them.

i know what you mean, unfortunately most of the wild Turkana Pbb are just brownish. While the other species have some yellowish/brownish mixed in like you said, but show green traits more consistently. Regardless of whether its a brown or green Turkana Pbb, it's still my dream bichir for sure (the wild ones) :headbang2

Look for a nice dark green lapradei if you don't want to spend mega bucks. See my video in the polypterus media section

You and me both as well as the Turkana senegalus:headbang2:drool: which grows to 16"+. Only if I can get connections around Kenya. I might be able to get those.

Top 10 greenish bichir would be:

Polypterus bichir bichir "Turkana"
Polypterus bichir sp. "Koliba"
Polypterus bichir sp. "Koloton"
Polypterus bichir lapradei "Nigeria"
Polypterus retropinnis
Polypterus palmas polli
Polypterus delhezi
Polypterus ornatipinnis
Polypterus weeksii
Polypterus mokelembembe

I think polypterus palmas polli you can get away with as they are commonly available in the Philippines and cheap too. Just hit Cartimar and you find plenty over there.

I recommend go for a polypterus palmas polli, polypterus delhezi and polypterus ornatipinnis as they are all commonly available in the Philippines and use black sand to bring out more of the green color.

Great info thanks. Just picked up a palmas polli and he's greening up nicely.

To speak frankly, if you have to ask... you probably shouldn't be shelling out $800+ on a single bichir! Consider trying a senegal (just $5 and some can be very green) or a palmas polli for about $20. Good luck!
