Basically I have been a not so good fish keeper the past year or so due to being away at school. The story goes..... I have a 75 gallon aquarium currently stocked with 2 GTs , 1 featherfin catfish, a firemouth, and a colony of clown loaches 5 to be exact. I used to have 4 JDs in it that outgrew it fast but I was away and parents couldnt catch the suckers so I think my GT male got stunted. So my question is now that I have been home and removed the JDs and have the current stock above, is it possible for my GT to get a bit of a growthspurt or at least some growing. ( I left out that he is currently about 5 to 5.5 inches long and over 2 years old). That is why I believe he may be stunted because he is fairly old for being male dominant and only 5.5 inches. Water changes have gone back to regular weekly and feedings have increased. He has become much more aggressive since removing the JDs and im noticing his head finally looks like a hump is forming. I will get a picture of him up asap. O and P.S im just guessing the fish im talking about is male due to his colors and his attitude but once I get the pictures up every one can clarify that for me! THANKS!

Pictures as promised.
These first 6 are what I just took about 5 minutes ago. I tried to get a hand comparison but he just hates it so much he wouldnt stay put. Basically he is about the size from my index finger down to the crevest between thumb and index and I have pretty small hands. Does he look for sure male to every1 else? One picture you can see the other that he beats on pretty bad not sure of the sex of it though. I also threw in a couple pics when he was a baby 2 years ago.

I think I agree with you there that your male GT is stunted if he is alreay 2yrs old. I have a GT male and he is almost 2yrs old and he is almost 10" including tail and all. I recall that about 1 yr old, he was eating like mad and I saw the increase in his body mass. I think he is not growing anymore and just maintaining now.

My question is how much did you feed him during his growth period? It could be the condition of the tank that may affect him as well.

This is my observation of my GT and hope that helps.

yeah its definitely male and is more than likely stunted, however now that he is back under good conditions, he may still grow a bit since he is still young and wasnt in the bad conditions for multiple years like a lot of stunted fish, so he will probably never grow to his full potential but will probably still grow a bit more, it will just take him awhile

Fed normal 3-5 times daily with the how much can he eat in about 1 to 2 minutes. Slowly! I swear he has grown a half inch since I took the dempseys out. That is what made me want to post the question. He has increased agression and will actually ram the glass only when I put (MY FACE) up there. He will not do it to any1 else. The pictures do no justice to his color. He is not that yellow and is more the typical green terror color but I believe the flash skews this a bit. So basically im hoping to push another inch out of him before he stops all together.

Thanks for the info. I hope your right when it comes to some growing left in his tank! Are you just basing you opinion on the facts I gave you only or does he seem to appear abnormaly short bodied from the pictures?

Beautiful tank you have there. Now that I see your photos, one Gt is definitely not growing as he should. Could be that he is really a she? But still, you can tell the difference between the two. One looks very health and fins spread out. The other is shy and hiding in the back. Maybe if you have him in his own tank then he will do ok.

Yea that GT has always been the least dominate. I believe it is female but I didnt really have a question about that one besides maybe sex. I wish I could have another tank for it but for now it really seems to make the large one happy.

the only abnormalities i see are that his upper mouth is a bit weirdly shaped but im not sure if that is due to inbreeding or stunting, but i'm saying that he is stunted because of his size at 2yrs old, GTs are slow growers but he should really be almost double that size at least being 2 yrs old.

is that last pic you posted of another GT? because that pic looks like female but the other pics of him now that you posted show that he is definitely a male, females dont get that much color
