yeah, your right i screwed up sorry about that, i ment to talk, just about the one fish, then noticed i forgot too write the whole name, it was my bad, sorry i didn't mean too sound like a dick in that last post

No worries. Anyways I know next nothing on either of them. The photo you gave (And I guess there is maybe one more on google) is fairly cool. Just curious are you actually able to get your hands on one? Since seeing as it is so hard to find even any pictures of this guy I assume he would be next to impossible to get.

i found two places that have them, one has wild ones for 40, and one has smaller 3 inch ones, im going to buy acouple from one of the places, just not sure which place, depends on what i find out about them, cuz from what i do know about lake tang cichlids they are mostly slow growers , it might be worth the extra money and get the larger ones

side note: greenwood is a person... not a description... like axelrod, livingston, brichard, freyer, etc...

it is common for researchers/scientists/others to use thier own names when they describe a new species (they discover) to science.

ok, that makes sense, the green color of the fish made me think it had something to do with the appearence of the fish.

i kept 1 many years ago in a large tang community.
they eat anything, are fairly peaceful with other fish , and dont get too big.
they haven't been spawned much at all and are meant to dislike others of their own kind.
in the lake they are meant to come from fairly deep water over mud.

ive never seen that species--it is quite a beautiful fish!

the second fish is haplotaxodon trifasciatus or haplotaxodon microlepis

here are 2 pics i found:

The fish pictured in the second link is Greenwoodochromis bellcrossi, not a Haplotaxodon sp.

Chugger, my boyfriend has several 3-5" Greenwoodochromis christyi. He keeps some in his 60gl along with two pairs of wild Haplotaxodon trifasciata and a small group of Callochromis pleurospilus. The tank is small for such a community in the long run but he plans to upgrade in the near future. The G. christyi are generally peaceful. They chase eachother every now and again but don't cause any damage to one another and don't seem to notice anyone else. Come feeding time they're complete hogs. They'll eat anything.
IMO they're very similar in looks and behavior to Gnathochromis permaxillaris with the Gnaths probably being a little more aggressive toward conspecifics.

Some pix of his Greenwood. christyi, he keeps the lighting on this tank dim for the Haplotaxodon so the shots aren't that great.

One of his Gnath. permaxillaris. These are kept in a seperate 60gl with cyps and shellies.

He's big into Tangs. Shellies mostly but enjoys a good oddball. Check out shelldwellers.com and inquire about them there.
